Fraud, Killing The Wrong Roots by Their Movement Before Mouthment

When you hear the word Fraud, your mind will certainly take you to define that word as the crime of using dishonest methods to take something valuable from another person. But you may be surprised to find out that it is a name of a hardcore band with a massive fan base from Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, Indonesia.

Fraud was formed back in 2010 by Kecenk on guitar, Soullamb on bass guitar, Tompel on vocal, and Pras on drums. They were influenced mostly by wellknown hardcore bands like Terror, Hatebreed, Agnostic Front, and many more. Most of the members formerly played for other hardcore and metal bands. Kecenk played on drums for Vendetta, Deadquarter, and XDilemaX; Soullamb was on bass guitar for Exterminalos; while Pras used to play for the reggae ska band Heavy Monster.

Later, Tompel and Pras decided to change their outfit, and they were replaced by Rully (vocal) and Edel (drums). With Rully also eventually resigned, Fraud’s line-up presently consists of Keceng, Soullamb, Edel, and Bayu. Aside of singing with Fraud, Bayu also sings for a stoner rock band, Buas.

After releasing 1000 copies of their first album “No Fans Just Friends” in 2014, they are ready to provoke our ears once more with their latest album: “Movement Before Mouthment”. According to what they have exposed to ronascent.biz, the first hit from that album, titled “Unscared” has been released as a warming up teaser. “We purposely released Unscared only on Youtube. Why? Since we had prepared another gimmick to release in audio version,” said Kecenk further to ronascent.biz. Now, fans are watching the clock as the band reveals that the release of “Movement Before Mouthment” is scheduled, if all goes well, at the end of November.

The album “Movement Before Mouthment” is packing 10 explosive tracks which will put you into headbanging all day long. The songs are 1. Unscared, 2. Giant Slayer, 3. Movement Before Mouthment, 4. Provokasi, 5. Eastern Jaws, 6. Bleed Out Despair, 7. Betrayal, 8. Hold Nothing, 9. Wrong Roots, and 10. Keep My Promise.

I remember sitting down with Kecenk, enjoying a cigarette in his hand, a few years back in our mutual friend’s house, when he came out saying, “We waste our time preaching and debating religions and divine stuffs, while we are still blindly judging other people."
Personally, I believe that their latest album is a kind of cynical statement for those who offensively speak too often to offend other people without attempting some effective and significant work, contextually in Surabaya’s Punk and Hardcore scene. “Real movement gives a far much better result than a mouthment,” said Kecenk again to ronascent.biz.
Survival is not going to be an easy task for Fraud during the hard times of musical backwardness in Indonesia, where most audience would prefer to download songs freely from the internet rather than buying original CDs. But, as long as their faith remains unstoppable, I'm pretty sure they will stay “Killing The Wrong Roots.”
